Explore Evergreen – Birds, Elk, & Beer
September 15 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
We’ll bird Buchanan Park, which has a nice walking trail with nuthatches, bluebirds, hummingbirds, swallows, sparrows, finches, woodpeckers, and chickadees, and take a brief tour of Evergreen’s Community Garden before we proceed to Evergreen Lake. We might pick up a Dipper on the way. The elk rut should be in high swing mid-September and some migrant birds may be seen at the lake. Most observation will be on foot, involving some mild to moderate hiking. OPTIONAL: Plan to continue birding over lunch and craft beers on the patio of the new Lariat Lodge Brewing Company, Evergreen’s newest restaurant, located near Main Street. The LLBC is surrounded by forest and patrons hear Great Horned Owls off their deck at night.
Meeting Place: Bergen Park RTD Park-n-Ride near Evergreen. Take I-70 west to Exit 252, Evergreen Parkway (CO-74). Continue on CO-74 south to County Highway 65 (Bergen Parkway) and turn left. Take the first right into the Bergen Park Park-n-Ride lot (1287 County Hwy 65, Golden, CO 80401). The lot is near the intersection of CO Hwy 74 and CO Hwy 65, across from Bergen Park Church; then proceed to Evergreen Lake – parking lot closest to the Lake House
