Denver Audubon’s Big Year

Denver Audubon’s Big Year

As part of Denver Audubon’s 50 Year Anniversary, we are sponsoring a local 6 county Big Birding Year!  Join the fun, win prizes, and explore the great birding sites around us.  Plan to attend a viewing of the movie “The Big Year” and talk to the author Mark Obmascik!!  More information and updates will be posted throughout 2019.

Guidelines:

  • Our Big Year starts 12:00 AM on 01/01/2019 and ends 11:59 PM on 12/31/2019.
  • Identify bird species in any/all of 6 Colorado counties– Jefferson, Denver, Adams, Broomfield, Arapahoe, and Douglas.  There will be 1 winner per county.
  • Register for this event with Denver Audubon ( denveraudubon.org )
  • Cost $10.00
  • Stay tuned for eBird classes and tutorials.
  • Sign up for Denver Audubon field trips to hone your birding skills!
  • Record your sightings using eBird from your app or on your home computer.
  • Create account at  ebird.org if you don’t already have one.
  • We will be using eBird’sTop 100  ( ebird.org/top100 ) to track monthly progress so do NOT hide your data nor setup as “Anonymous  eBirder”.
  • Each recorded species must be on American Birding Association (ABA) Checklist. At the end of the year front-runners will be asked to download their eBird yearly report and send to Denver Audubon so that we can verify winners.
