Survey Sandstone Ranch

Drive to and walk through a variety of habitats on Sandstone Ranch, the newest of Douglas County’s Open Spaces. As yet it is closed to the public while Douglas County Open Space personnel formulate a master plan for best conservation and educational use. A group of volunteer naturalists is surveying the natural resources of the of the 2038-acre ranch to contribute live data to the planning process. Your observations will be welcome additions to the data. Sandstone offers the visitor a beautiful vista: red rock formations, prairie, a variety of woodlands, and two riparian areas, Gove and West Plum Creek. Historic ranch buildings are of interest as well. Bring binoculars and a sack lunch
Meeting Place: Sandstone Ranch is accessed from Hwy 105/Perry Park Rd, which begins just west of Sedalia. Drive 16 miles south on Hwy 105 to 8309 S Perry Park Rd., Larkspur, CO, (just south of the Perry Park Ranch and County Club entrance at Red Rock Drive). Proceed through a raised county gate and follow the gravel road south 1.3 miles into Sandstone Ranch. Continue past a set of ranch buildings to park on the grass near a guest house. Signage will indicate a Sandstone Event off Hwy. 105 and guide cars to the parking area. After meeting the leaders at the parking area expect to caravan further onto the ranch for a number of stops and then moderate walking. Google the address for additional directions.
