Flocktoberfest is shaping up to be a very popular event, so we wanted to send our registered guests a few helpful details before you head our way. We’re expecting beautiful fall mornings, lots of owl enthusiasts, and a very full house!

🦉 What to Expect

The stars of Flocktoberfest are, of course, the owls! Nature’s Educators will join us for live animal presentations featuring some of their ambassador owls. You’ll get an up-close look at these incredible birds while learning about their behavior, adaptations, and strategies for survival.

Live Owl Presentations — Saturday & Sunday

9:00–9:30 a.m. — Family-friendly, all ages

10:00–10:30 a.m. — Family-friendly, all ages

11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. — Longer program recommended for older children and adults

Before or after the owl programs, stick around and enjoy the Kingery Nature Center Open House. We’ll have owl pellet dissection, arts & crafts, story time with Douglas County Libraries, activities around the Nature Center, and more. You’re also welcome to slow down and explore the trails, ponds, and surrounding habitat on your own.

Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center

We are located at the south end of Chatfield State Park, near the entrance to Waterton Canyon, just off Waterton Road. If you’re using GPS, entering the Kingery Nature Center address above is the easiest way to find us.

One important note: you do not need to enter Chatfield State Park or pay a State Park entrance fee to reach us. The Nature Center is accessed directly from Waterton Road.

🚗 A Heads-Up About Parking

We’re expecting a terrific turnout, and parking will likely be the biggest adventure of the morning.

Free parking is available in the Kingery Nature Center lot. Once that lot fills, additional free public parking is available nearby at the Denver Water Waterton Canyon parking lot, a short walk from the Nature Center.

With beautiful fall weather in the forecast, Waterton Canyon will likely be busy with other visitors, too. Both lots may fill early, so please give yourself some extra time to park and be prepared that you may need to circle or wait briefly for a space.

If you are arriving with small children, someone with mobility or accessibility needs, or anyone who would benefit from a shorter walk, we’ll have a drop-off area near the Nature Center entrance. You can drop off members of your group before finding a parking spot.

Carpooling is also a great idea if you’re coming with friends or family!

☀️ Come Ready for a Colorado Fall Morning

The forecast looks gorgeous, but this is Colorado—and Flocktoberfest is an outdoor event. We recommend layers, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle.

We have a water bottle filling station at the Nature Center, and light snacks, sodas, and sparkling water will be available for purchase.

Most importantly, come ready to have some fun, meet some remarkable birds, and enjoy a beautiful fall morning at the Kingery Nature Center.

📵 One Last Weekend Note

Our entire Denver Audubon staff will be all hands on deck bringing Flocktoberfest to life, so we will not be monitoring our phones or email during the event. We’ve tried to include everything you need to know in this message so you can arrive ready to enjoy the morning.
