Originally from Toronto, Canada, Jane holds a B.Sc. in Human Nutrition from McGill University and spent ten years working as a registered dietitian.
After experiencing burnout, she stepped away from the healthcare industry in search of something more fulfilling. Her path changed when she moved to Denver and a friend invited her birding and identified over 30 species—mostly by ear. Jane was amazed, and the moment she heard the sweet, flute-like song of the Western Meadowlark, she was completely hooked.
Today, birding is not only a passion but also a meaningful mindfulness practice for Jane. She’s committed to spreading the joy of birds through education and advocacy. Her experience includes volunteering with Denver Audubon and Environment for the Americas, working at Wild Birds Unlimited, and running her own bird tour company, Birding with Jane. She is also a co-organizer for the Denver Front Range chapter of the Feminist Bird Club, leads Mindful Birding courses at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and guides outings with Lafayette Open Space.
Jane is a strong advocate for accessible and inclusive birding, recognizing its value as a mental health resource and a way to build community. Volunteerism has always played an important role in her life, and she’s thrilled to now serve as Volunteer Coordinator at Denver Audubon.
When she’s not birding (or playing
Wingspan), Jane enjoys swimming, hiking, salsa and bachata dancing, speed puzzling, and going to concerts with friends.
