Field Trip Leader
Leading a field trip is a wonderful way to inspire others, build community, and share your love of the natural world. By joining our team, you help Denver Audubon expand our reach, offering more programs that educate and inspire the public.
The Role: Our leaders and co-leaders are the heart of our popular bird outings. You’ll guide groups through various parks across the Denver metro area, helping participants identify birds while sharing your enthusiasm for the outdoors. We offer trips for a variety of audiences, including adult birders and family-friendly groups.
Leader: Best for those comfortable guiding a group and managing a pre-scheduled outing. A good working knowledge of bird ID and a desire to share tips with others is key.
Co-Leader: Perfect for those looking to gain experience alongside a seasoned leader. Beginning birders are welcome!
When: Year-round on weekends and weekdays. Trips typically last 1.5–2 hours.
Where: Various metro locations, such as Belmar Park, Sloan’s Lake, Wash Park, and the Kingery Nature Center.
Requirements: You don't need to be a master birder—just passionate! We look for volunteers who are comfortable speaking to groups and identifying common species. Training is provided and required for all new leaders.
If you haven’t joined us for an outing yet, we encourage you to sign up for a field trip to see how our typical excursions are run!
